Karl Kenny hopes his company, Kraken Robotics, will be part of one of the first proposals funded — a $25 million project to image the seafloor of Atlantic Canada in ultra high-definition resolution.
“We’re going to be seeing things and finding things that have never been seen before using our sensors and robot technology, so it’s a big day for us,” he says.
Kraken has gone from a start-up in St John’s a few years ago to employing more than 70 staff with new offices in Nova Scotia.
“We’re actively recruiting. We’ll probably be over 100 by early spring. These are all new jobs, high-quality jobs. This is not minimum wage stuff,” Kenny says’’.

Il y a probablement des gens qui ont vendu dans le marché afin d’exercer leurs bons de souscription, ce qui a ralenti la progression du titre. Cela dit, c’est une très bonne nouvelle que l’entreprise ait un 600,000$ supplémentaire en encaisse.

Kraken Announces Acceleration of Ocean Infinity Battery Order and $5 Million Advance Payments
Kraken will deliver batteries for five new Kongsberg Hugin Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) recently purchased by Ocean Infinity, for integration at the manufacturer’s facility in Norway. With the change in scheduling, these new vehicles will take some of the delivery slots initially intended for replacement of existing AUV fleet batteries. As such, Kraken expects a follow-on order from Ocean Infinity in the second half of 2019 for additional batteries and spares, beyond the initial $9 million contract.
Je ne sais pas combien coûtent les batteries, mais selon le site web d’Ocean Infinity l’entreprise possède actuellement 6 HUGIN AUVs. Avec la commande de 5 nouveaux appareils, ils doublent pratiquement leur flotte. Je suppose qu’une commande de batteries relativement substantielle reste à venir pour Kraken.
D’un point de vue plus général, c’est aussi encourageant de voir qu’Ocean Infiinity semble connaître une forte croissance. Ça devrait procurer un bon vent dans le dos pour Kraken à moyen / long terme.

Le ‘‘outlook’’ s’en vient de plus en plus intéressant. Carnet de commandes de $13M + $4M octroyé verballement. En supposant qu’environ $2M sera reconnu au T4 (pour atteindre la prévision du management de $7M pour l’année), il semble que Kraken est en route pour générer environ $15M de revenus en 2019. Assez impressionnant comme croissance!
C’est sans compter la possibilité de gagner un projet de $30M sur 3 ans via le programme Ocean Supercluster. Ce contrat serait pour des services (’'Robotics as a Service) et non des produits, donc avec des marges encore plus élevées.

Si Ocean Infinity a fait une commande de 9 millions $ pour équiper ses 10 premiers véhicules, je suppose donc que les 5 nouveaux représentent un autre ~4,5 millions $ en commandes à venir l’année prochaine. Pas mauvais si c’est le cas!
